Date
of création
This site exists since the 21st of February, 1999.
No photo was taken before this date.
From
21st of February 1999 to 31th of May 2001, this site used to be the "Eiffel
webcam" site. It used to have the following URL:
Since
1st of June 2001, the new name of this site is:
"Le ciel de Paris", and the new URL is:
Anyway,
the content of the site is the same: A new photo is taken everyday at
noon GMT.
Archives
This site shows a new photo every day, but you can also see previous days'
photos. Just select the day, month and year of the chosen day, then click
on the "OK" archives button on the Home page.
You can see photos of the first two weeks in one go by selecting
"01-15" instead of a specific day, and the last two
weeks by selecting "16-31".
Difference
between local time and GMT time
The time displayed on the photo corresponds to the
Paris time (France) when the photo has been shot. As we are in France,
and we are subjected to winter and summer time changes, the time displayed
on the photo will be modified (more or less one hour) to always correspond
to 12:00 PM GMT time. GMT time is "almost" UTC time.
Winter time
Paris time is GMT + 1.
The photo is taken every day at 13:00. The time displayed on the photo
is: 13:00 (12:00 GMT).
Summer time
Paris time is GMT + 2.
The photo is taken every day at 14:00. The time displayed on the photo
is: 14:00 (12:00 GMT).
Changing the time means all
the photos will be taken at the same GMT time for the entire year: 12:00
PM GMT. So you can compare each photo (sun and luminosity changes) without
any break when changing between winter and summer times.
Not
always on time
The time displayed on the photo is the time at which it is taken. It is
usually 12:00 PM GMT but, sometimes, a system malfunction can stop the
procedure. When we realise there is a problem, we take a picture manually.
So the time displayed is different... If we're not on the spot to check
the system, one or several photos may not be taken. So, if you look for
a photo which was not taken, a blank frame will appear instead of the
photo.
